Install Ubuntu on the Cr-48

  1. Put your Cr-48 into Developer Mode by following the directions here.

  2. Let the Cr-48 boot into setup. This could take 5-6 minutes.

  3. Select your wireless connection and accept the license agreement.

  4. Open a command prompt by pressing ctrl + alt + → (→ is the forward arrow where the F2 key would normally be)

  5. Type chronos then hit enter

  6. Type sudo su then hit enter

  7. Type wget -O - http://goo.gl/DlmZS | sh - then hit enter. (That is an uppercase O, not a zero.)

  8. Wait while the script re-sizes partitions on the hard drive and reboots.

  9. Repeat steps 2-7 to download and install Ubuntu. Be patient, this can take an hour or more. When the process completes, the computer will boot into Ubuntu, however upon rebooting, you will be back in Chrome OS.

  10. To make Ubuntu the default operating system:

    • Open a command prompt by pressing ctrl + alt + → (→ is the forward arrow where the F2 key would normally be)

    • Type chronos then hit enter

    • Type sudo su then hit enter

    • Type cgpt add -i 6 -P 5 -S 1 /dev/sda then hit enter

  11. To make Chrome OS the default operating system either:

    • Remove the battery and take the computer out of Developer Mode as described here or

    • Open the Terminal and type sudo cgpt add -i 6 -P 0 -S 1 /dev/sda and hit enter

  12. The user name and password in Ubuntu is user
